Beet Balls

A few years ago, I bought the Deceptively Delicious cook book by Jessica Seinfeld.  The book is filled with recipes that contain hidden vegetables, and is marketed towards moms who have kiddos who panic at the site of green on their plate. I've gotten quite a few excellent recipes in there including some great mac and cheese.

Healthier Convenience Foods

So school has started, and for many of us that means busy, harried evenings.  We definitely fit into that camp. Yesterday, I had to pick up my eldest from school, pick up our CSA share, drop my daughter off at softball, pick up my husband from the train, and pick up my daughter from softball

Quick Morning Breakfasts

To be honest, I haven't been trying too many new recipes lately.  My kids have been loving eating the cucumbers and tomatoes raw, and my potatoes have tasted lovely baked. One thing I have been trying to negotiate, however, is morning meals.  With school starting, we need something that is quick and filling and won't

Spaghetti Sauce Success

After my gazpacho disaster, I was a bit hesitant to head out on my own with a recipe.  Luckily lazy me didn't make it to the store yesterday, so I was forced to work with what I had on hand. I decided upon pasta because our pantry was filled with noodles.  My kids get a

Gazpacho or Salsa?

So I was all excited to make gazpacho yesterday.  I had everything -- all I needed to buy from the store was some veggie juice, and we were set. I set up my space in the kitchen; I shooed all the kids into the other room, and I got my food chopper up and running.

Chicken Tomatillo Soup

So I've been wanting to figure out a way to introduce my girls to tomatillos, but they aren't fans of salsa.  Lucky for me, I found this recipe for chicken tomatillo soup.  (Click here) The recipe is a simple one not requiring much more than chicken, jalapeños, tomatillos, and onions.  The great thing about this

I was so excited to pick up my tomatillos this evening.  I don't think I've ever actually cooked with them, but they have been on my bucket list for awhile. I immediately jumped on the computer to find some recipes. The first recipe I found was for this steak quesadilla with roasted tomatillo and apple

Beef and Veg

I think my favorite thing about the CSA is that I get use vegetables with abandon.  I don't have to sit at the grocery store and budget and figure out what should go in what.  I just have a fridge full of fresh produce that I can use to my heart's content. And I have!

Fridge Full of Cabbage

So we have a lot of cabbage at our house.  We aren't quite as good at gobbling that up as we are the other veggies.  I've been meaning to blanch and freeze some of it so we can have cabbage soup over the winter, but I never seem to build up enough ice to properly
